STATE GOVERNMENT OF INDIA
The state government looks after the day to day affairs at state level. It is also divided into three branches - state legislature, state executive and state judiciary.
STATE LEGISLATURE
The state legislature is a law making body of the state. Every state has a legislature. Some of the state legislature have two houses. The lower house is known as the Legislative Assembly or Vidhan Sabha and the upper house is known as the Legislative council or Vidhan Parishad. The members of a state legislative assembly are elected for a term of 5 years. The States having two houses are Andhara Pradesh, Telengana, Bihar, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.
THE EXECUTIVE
The state executive consists of the Governor, the Council of Ministers and the Chief Minister.
THE GOVERNOR
The Governor is the highest authority in a state. He or she is appointed by the president of India. However, he holds office during the pleasure of the President. He acts as a link between the State Government and the Union Government. The governor appoints the leader of the majority party in the Legislative Assembly as the chief minister.
THE CHIEF MINISTER AND COUNCIL OF MINISTERS
The Council of Ministers are also appointed by the Governor on the advice of the Chief Minister. The Chief Minister and the Council of Ministers are responsible in implementing laws made by the Legislative Assembly.
STATE JUDICIARY
Most states has a high court. The judges are appointed by the president of India. All decisions of a high court can be reviewed by the supreme court too. High court is the highest court of a state. There are district courts at the district level. There are 39 courts in
